چکیده

The influence of spatial and temporal variations in wind forcing on the circulation in lakes is investigated using field data and the three-dimensional Estuary and Lake Computer Model (ELCOM) applied to Lake Kinneret. Lake Kinneret field data from six thermistor chains and eight wind anemometers deployed during July 2001 are presented. Internal wave motions are well reproduced by the numerical model when forced with a spatially uniform wind taken from a station near the lake center; however, simulated seiche amplitudes are too large (especially vertical mode 2) and lead observations by 3–10 h (for a 24-h period wave) at different locations around the lake. Consideration of the spatial variation of the wind field improves simulated wave amplitude, and phase error at all stations is reduced to less than 1.5 h. This improvement is attributable to a better representation of the horizontally averaged wind stress and can be reproduced with a spatially uniform wind that has the same horizontally averaged wind stress as the spatially varying wind field. However, a spatially varying wind field is essential for simulating mean surface circulation, which is shown to be predominantly directly forced by the surface-layer–averaged wind stress moment. Wind blowing over a lake surface forms a highly turbulent surface mixing layer. Turbulence rapidly distributes momentum, transferred from wind to water, over the depth of this layer such that (initially) the surface water moves downwind as a slab (Spigel and Imberger 1980). Basin-scale, windinduced motions depend on interactions of spatially and temporally varying wind forcing with bathymetry, density distribution, and the earth’s rotation. These motions include basin-scale internal waves driven by temporal variations in 1 To whom correspondence should be addressed. Numerical Modeling of Saline Gravity Currents Using EARSM and Buoyant k- Turbulence Closures

Gravity currents are very common in nature and may appear in rivers, lakes, oceans, and the atmosphere. They are produced by the buoyant forces interacting between fluids of different densities and may introduce sediments and pollutants into water bodies. In this study, the hydrodynamics and propagation of gravity currents are investigated using WISE (Width Integrated Stratified Environments), ...

spatial modeling of summer precipitation in North-west of Iran

In the present study, the main aim was the spatial evaluation summer rainfall of northwest of Iran based on30 stations in northwest of Iran during 30 years of statistical period (1985-2014). An attempt, using geo-statistical modeling by ordinary least squares (OLS) and geographically weighted regression (GWR) procedures, was also made. The results represented that the GWR model with higher S2, ...

Evaluating the Spatial-Temporal Variations of Rainfall Erosivity and Erosivity Density (A Case Study: Menderjan Watershed, Isfahan Province)

Rainfall erosivity is one of the factors determining the amount of water erosion in the soil. Rainfall erosivity is determined by the  total rainstorm energy and the maximum intensity in 30 minutes (I30). Since rainfall erosivity is closely related to the amount and intensity of rainfall, it is expected that the rainfall erosivity would change monthly and seasonally throughout the year. The mai...

Temporal and Spatial Variations of Finfish Bycatch of Cutlassfish Trawl in Bushehr and Hormozgan Marine Waters, the Northern Persian Gulf

The spatial and temporal variations of finfish bycatch assemblage cutlassfish trawl were compared in two fishing areas (Hormozgan and Bushehr). Data were collected on board of commercial vessels in the fishing grounds of Trichiurus lepturus in Bushehr and Hormozgan marine waters between early May 2010 to late November, 2010. There was a significant difference in the bycatch assemblages bet...

Modeling of spatio-temporal of albedo over Iran

The aim of this study is modeling spatiotemporal variations of albedo. This study was conducted using simultaneous effects of several components, such as wetness of surface layer of soil, cloudiness, topography and vegetation density (NDVI), using MEERA2 model with a resolution of 50 in 50 km during 2000-2010 in Iran. The results of spatial analysis of albedo values in Iran showed that the high...
